Extra Credit Blog
1. The judges and lawyers seem to be debating whether school officials should balance the need for keeping his young charges safe from drugs while respecting the constitutional protections even middle school students should receive. They are debating if they should strip search the students, which violates the fourth amendment of unreasonable searches and seizures or otherwise, not. The officials seem to believe that the safety of the children and students is more important than some violation to the constitution.
2. The strict criteria would be "reasonable evidence and proof" to strip search the student. The criteria would start with a number of questions concerning the "hidden drug" that the student is holding on to. If the questions are too much for the child, the student will budge and tell the truth. Questions would also be placed upon the student's friends and peers. If none of the students or peers budge, the question session ends. If the question session passes, the next step would be checking his or her belongings and the student's locker. If nothing is found there and there is still evidence and reasonable proof that the student has it on him or her. Then, the next step would be the strip search.
3. My suggestion would be that the strip search would continue on and when the student hits age 18, a legal age, the student can object or continue through with the strip search. Under that age, the student is still an immature child capable of lying and hiding illegal belongings in danger. Therefore, I believe that the strip search is necessary for all students under 18.

My ideal university is an exciting, a large, a respectful, and a diverse school. I would love to take one or two classes a semester with only a half an hour of class a day. No classes on Friday and no classes beginning before 11.00 am would also be an ideal. It would be ideal that gen eds. aren't necessary, but students may only take classes that are necessary for his or her purpose and major. For example, I am switching to become a communication major. I wish to focus and concentrate solely on communication classes. For my communication's class, it would be ideal to have three classes a week, half an hour long, and a decent number of diverse students attending the class. In that class, I picture a outgoing, respectful, and friendly professor who understands the needs and wants of the students. I also vision the class all getting along and all on time because there is more than enough parking spots in the university. Finally, I imagine all of our classmates being close enough to grab lunch right after the class ends. That would be my ideal day of class in communications.

1. I actually like the concept of symbolizing your religion on the t-shirts. It expresses who one is as an individual and it should be freely said since the US is a free country. I personally see the images as parody, but not in a harmful way. I see it as a way to capture people's attention and show them who that certain individual is wearing that t-shirt. My spiritual influence is high. I attend my Christian Presbyterian church every sunday and am active in it. Therefore, I believe that my beliefs would definitely give off a different perspective than a non-Christian. I respect other religions and their way of showing their identity as well.
2. "We could say that the previous examples are typical of a culture that ignores God" says Paul Mitchell as he refers to the slang, parody on the t-shirts. I, however, have to disagree with Paul Mitchell. I, for one, identify myself as a christian and do not find any offense to the t-shirts with the parody. I actually quite find them entertaining and amusing. They bring identity to the christian and attention to the religion.
3. It would not be the same without the picture or symbol and just the words descripted on the t-shirt. The parody and understanding of the whole concept would not be known. Reactions would be confusion and perplexity rather than amusement and entertainment.
4. I interpret the messages in a prideful respect to Jesus. The black and white shirt shows more prideful respect depicting Jesus as He is whole and big in the t-shirt. The other colorful t-shirt is more comical with Jesus dressed to convey the message.

The design of the cover will be in all the strong, vibrant, dark colors: dark red, black, gray, royal blue, forest green, and bits of white in it. All the colors will clash together and took like a big ball of colorful mess which will represent the problems of the world sung about and the hurt the people of these problems are going through. Inside this “colorful mess” will have tints of white, which will represent the hope in these problems of the world.

Hunger, starvation, skin and bone
My little pitiful life is shown
How do I survive this
How can I just taste this
That tasty, fresh, warm piece of bread
I don’t know but something needs to be said

1. I was kind of surprised and kind of blase to the video. I knew the consequences of the use of steroids, but I didn't know it was that severe. I learned since I was young that steroids have harmful effects and in the long run will definitely not be beneficial even if it helps the athlete's stamina and performance for that certain game. Weak arguments could result in the discussion of whether it is considered one things, like cheating, healthiness, and etc. I don't believe that steroids could be used responsibly. For most athletes, once starting on steroids it becomes an addiction because he or she sees his or her progress and performance arising and improving. The consequences are too risky and harmful that steroids should just not be used at all.
2. As I was saying to the response for question one, I believe steroids should just not be used at all. It causes harm, negative consequences in the long run, and negative side effects. Athletes don't need it, they want it. They should be content with the performance they give to their best ability because it is straight from their hard work and intensive training. Using steroids is like cheating for me. It just boosts up the athlete's performance and stamina resulting in better abilities, but it is not out of the athlete's own training and stamina, it is used out of drugs--steroids. There should not be any different standards for professional athletes and high school athletes. It should just not be used for all athletes in general. As one can see, I am not pro-steroids and my reactions to steroid use and steroid testing are negative.

Counterargument to Georgetown Party Restrictions Response
The restrictions made to students of Georgetown University needs to be set and made. Those who come in conflict or violate the rules and regulations should be charged with fair consequences and punishment. The students not only disrupts the campus with students who are actually studying peacefully, but also disrupts neighbors. This riot has become too chaotic and out of control. It needs to be stopped. Solberg, the 2nd district commander said that "15 to 20 officers will be assigned to the residential neighborhoods near campus". Cops, guards, and other officials need to place heavy security around the campus and especially at the "hot spots" for students to limit themselves and be prepared for the consequences. The officers and officials have "tried a variety of different tactics, as has Georgetown University, to be sure they can have a good time and not disrupt the community, but nothing has worked. . . . It's gone on too long now" (Solberg, 3).

Georgetown Party Restrictions Response
Georgetown University is getting more strict and making more rules for parties held on campus and near campus. Neighbors have been complaining about the party eventually crashing their backyard. Police cops will be guarding the surrounding campus and especially the typical party spots. I personally believe that the discipline is needed, but only to a certain point. Either way, the students will always get what they want in the end. If they want a party with more than one-keg per party, they'll have a party with tons of drinks, but in a illegal and discreet way. Officials and officers will have to keep tracking down and more into the system then. I think it is a waste of time for these officials and officers to be concentrating on publicly drunk students when the outside, corrupt world has more going on with danger and harm. It is needed, but not to be the center and focus for the area's crime and danger. I believe that there should be a limited amount of security, guarding, and watch. If students really do get out of hand, the consequences should be up to the officials to penalize him or her. However, responsibilities should be up to the students to decide for him or herself.
Paraphrasing Practice
James D. Lester says that the final research paper should consist of only 10% of direct quotations. He explains that students should not overuse quotations and limit the paper to his or her own words and source materials.

Rough Draft Thesis for Portfolio #2
Overpriced textbooks have an overall negative approach, appeal, and effect on students and parents.

Please read Chapt. 10, pp. 283-293 before completing this blog.
1. The first article suggests that action toys and figures for boys have a huge influence on the male body image. These action figures affect men on having eating and body disorders, taking steroids and other drugs to gain muscle just as barbie affects women on the same notion, but with a more thin and slimmed out ideal physique. The second article counteracts the first article and argues that the action figures and toys do not have an influence on a man's personal bulk. Kim Franke-Folstad actually explains in her article that she finds in rather amusing and comical that little boys would take out a ruler and measure a figure's body to size up to it.
2. The tone for the first article is more conservative and serious. The first article gives many facts and examples measuring out each action figure and putting them into real-life examples. I would choose an anti-ana, conservative audience for this article. The second article is more from a self-perspective point of view and is not as long as the first article. The author, Kim Franke-Folstad points out part of examples of the first article and twists/changes the example into a comical sense. The audience for this article is a more liberal, free-minded group.
3. I personally have to agree with Kim Franke-Folstad's article. I found the first article rather amusing and comical. It just didn't appeal to me in the sense that action figures and barbie dolls could actually influence a child in that way. Growing up, I played with barbie dolls, but I have never had the influence to look like barbie. That was just not possible in my case. The blue eyes and blond hair... Since I am oriental/Asian. I just cannot see how these toys and plastic figures can influence such children. Children are influenced by their favorite celebrities and grow up idolizing and wanting to look like him or her. However, with plastic figures, I think these toys are just companions rather than peer pressure.

If I Could... 2.11.09 - Wednesday!
What really makes me angry is... a rude, selfish, disrespectful person
If I could change one thing in this world... the corruptness
If I could uninvent one thing, what would it be? nothing. everything was made and invented for a reason.
If I were given funds to conduct a protest or campaign, what would I choose? I would choose a protest on the amount a student has to pay for his/her education.

1. Eating disorders are so common in America that 1 or 2 out of every 100 students will struggle with one. These pro-ana websites and blogs seems to encourage students to continue with the eating disorder. The blog and website is a safe haven for these strugglers. The encouraging words and the amount of pounds and food they lost and have taken in builds the motivation that these strugglers can do it too. These strugglers hardly eat at all and the small amount of food they do eat becomes an obsession. While people with anorexia often deny having a problem, the truth is that anorexia is a serious and potentially deadly eating disorder. Fortunately, recovery is possible. With proper treatment and support, these strugglers can break anorexia’s self-destructive pattern and regain your health and happiness. However, with these supportive websites, this pattern is bound to continue because these strugglers will find happiness in these "encouraging" words from the people that feel and act the same.
2. This pro-ana websites and blogs are pro-recovery groups that helps strugglers get through their problems. They don't focus on the disorder itself, but instead focus on the individual and possible reasons as to why disordered eating happened and offer solutions to these root causes. The blogs also have common feelings ranting about their struggles. The individual will feel that he or she is not alone, but can endure this struggle and get past it with other fellow strugglers.
3. Even though, the pro-ana websites and blogs are positive to these strugglers, they can also have a negative consequence to them. They do help individuals with his or her problem and offers solutions to these root causes. However, they do not help the cause and therefore the pattern continues. The individual will have friends who seeks help too and who share the same feelings through these blogs and websites, but they will help each other continue on with this disease/disorder, not help each other fix and resolve the situation or problem.

Blog #2 - 2.02.09 Monday
1. Honestly, the initial reaction when I saw the title and skimmed the first few pages were disbelief. I, for one, believe that I have no right to say this because I guess I'm not a "runner", but just a "jogger", but I believe it is just a waste of someone's time to be categorizing runners and joggers. They just do what they do. End of story.
2. Going back to question one, I admit I am not a "runner". However, I am a "jogger" who casually likes to jog for some time on the treadmill, the rubber conveyer belts that so called "runners" don't run on. This ad honestly irritates me. They seem to be looking down on so called "joggers" when these "runners" just run slowly, but they are not "jogging". It is completely contradicting its statement, I believe. On the other hand, I must agree that joggers don't seem to enjoy the entire view, environment, and surroundings around them; whereas "real runners" do.
3. The layout, texts, and the pictures make the issue of this more realistic. The pictures of the running shoes makes a jogger think "am I really a runner if I am willing to buy the Pearl Izumi's shoes?" The whole aura of this advertisement completes the Pearl Izumi's realistic and discouraging yet encouraging opinion.
4. The environmental issue and value is encouraged. People don't really tend to look around themselves and enjoy their surroundings, life, and nature. Through this ad, it is really encouraged. However, treadmills and domestication are discouraged.
5. I personally believe that Pearl Izumi alienates the "jogging" population to its detriment. I for one consider myself a "jogger" and through this ad, I became very negative with Pearl Izumi's products. Through it, I do not intend on buying this "running" shoes.
6. This text's description appeals to ethos. Ethos is based on the character of the speaker. This is shown through the character of a "runner". An ethos-driven document relies on the reputation of the author, ths Pearl Izumi's owner, who I believe is a determined, passionate runner.
Pearl Izumi's ad appeared during Reebok's "Run Easy" campaign, which portrays runners in misery to promote a less aggressive, chat-friendly running pace supported by the campaign slogan, "I am what I am."
At the end of your blog, respond to the following:
7. I personally believe that Pearl Izumi's ad would be the most effective and most likely to turn up in a magazine than this Reebok's ad. The Reebok ad definitely does not show a encouraging feel to it. It does not motivate me to run or even want to run. It gives me the sense of queasiness and delusion. It seems very unorganized and not well planned/thought out. Although I have been writing negatively about Pearl Izumi's ad, I believe that this ad is more organized, well thought out, and passionate. Izumi's ad definitely instigated an opinion from me while Reebok's ad just instigated indifference from me.

1. The different types of rhetoric shown on these websites are given through the different means of elements: the layout, photos, videos, animation, colors, text, gaming content, and real-life content. The websites show photos of guns, the army, battles, and etc. The layout, colors, and animation of the websites are dark, war-like, and realistic. By looking at the sample videos of the game, it seems thrilling, yet at the same time, it seems scary and dangerous.
2. The intended audience would be teenagers, mainly teenage boys. Without no realistic background of the army and battle. This game is definitely a persuasive knowledge and influential. It will show the boys what fighting on the battle ground is really like.
3. Yes, I agree with Navy veteran Boyle that this website/game indoctrinates the ideology of war. Especially younger boys will have the idea of this game in the back of their minds when they pick up a game or even see a gun. This game will definitely instigate a immature, younger mind. The media portrays the Iraq War in a very deadly and sad way. Even though, we know what is going on, it does not cover a lot of pictures and videos to help viewers visualize the content of what is really going on. On the other hand, this game definitely helps visualize the gamers in a harmful way.
4. Yes, I believe that this game will definitely encourage and instigate younger teens mentality and ideas. For example, when I was younger, I would watch television on MTV when there were sexual kiss scenes and content. I never really thought about it until I would see such action. Therefore, I believe that this game will have a big impact and arouse war in a kid's mind.
